When it comes to growing beautiful flowers one must understand it can require a bit of work to ensure healthy plants and beautiful blooms. However, there are a few perennials that demand a rather large amount of attention such as roses, dahlias, and petunias. All the daily waterings, feedings, and deadheading, these plants require can leave a gardener exhausted and other plants neglected.

Daylilies, on-the-other-hand, require very little effort on a gardener’s part. Curious as to why they are often referred to as the perfect perennial?

  • They can survive a wide range of climates
  • Suitable for all types of landscaping
  • Drought tolerant
  • Adapt to a variety of soil and light conditions
  • Have very few pests and disease issues
  • Easy to propagate once established

Although daylilies do best in full sun, they tolerate part-shade as long as they get a minimum of six hours of direct sunlight per day. With such a low amount of care needed for these beautiful blooms, what more can a gardener ask for?

If you would like more information on how to care for daylilies visit the American Daylily Society’s website.  There you will find FAQs, a dictionary of daylily terms and additional resources.
